Texas Tech fell from the unbeaten ranks last week with a 26-22 loss at then-unranked Arizona State. The Sun Devils capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive with 34 seconds to go with a one-yard touchdown run after the Red Raiders had gone up 22-19 with two minutes remaining after blocking an Arizona State punt. Coy Eakin and Reggie Virgil had touchdown receptions in the loss, which dropped Texas Tech to 3-1 in the Big 12 Conference race, a game back of BYU and Cincinnati.
Oklahoma State’s losing streak stretched to six games, and it fell to 0-4 in the Big 12 with a 49-17 thumping administered by then-No. 24 Cincinnati last week. The Cowboys trailed 28-17 entering the fourth quarter before the Bearcats pulled away, helped by a 100-yard interception return for a score. Rodney Fields Jr. ran for 163 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, while Sam Jackson V ran for a touchdown but was 11-of-19 passing for 149 yards and the crucial interception. Oklahoma State fell to 0-4 under interim coach Doug Meacham.
The Red Raiders snapped a three-game losing streak in the series last season with a 56-48 road win on Nov. 23. Texas Tech reclaimed a 24-23-3 lead in the all-time series in the process.
